Find below answers to the most common questions about extended care at La Scuola International School, Mission Campus.

Register Now

Payments will be processed through Clarity, over 10 payments beginning in September. Please contact business.office@lascuolainternational.org if you have any specific questions about charges. Students enrolled in SST will receive the same percentage discount on extended care as they do on their tuition, as long as they are registered for either the 3-day or 5-day extended care option. Please note that the SST discount does not apply to drop-in extended care.

Pick-up takes place at La Scuola’s main entrance on 18th Street. Please notify us if you will be late at (415) 551-0000 and/or extendedcare@lascuolainternational.org. Late fees will be charged in all instances after a grace period of five minutes. Any pick-up after the grace period will be charged a base rate of $50 plus an additional $2/minute after 6:15 p.m. If late pickup becomes habitual, additional charges will apply.

Enrollment and Registration

Can students start extended care mid-year?

Yes. Students can enroll in extended care at any time during the school year, subject to availability.

How do I register?

Registration for extended care is done through our online registration system with regular and drop-in options.

Can I change our extended care schedule once enrolled?

Schedule changes are allowed if requested in advance, subject to availability.

Payment and Fees

Are there any activities that require an additional fee?

Some special activities or events may require an additional fee. Parents will be informed in advance and given the option to opt-in.

Classes and Activities

What activities are offered during extended care?

Activities include homework support, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and indoor games.

What type of training do extended care staff receive?

Staff receive training in child development, first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, and activity planning to ensure a safe and enriching environment for students.

Are there special events or themed days?

Yes. Extended care occasionally hosts special events or themed days to keep activities engaging and fun for students.

Does extended care include homework support?

Yes. Staff-assisted homework time is part of the extended care schedule.

Policies and Procedures

What are the procedures for handling conflicts between students?

Conflicts are managed through conflict resolution strategies, encouraging students to talk through issues while supervised by staff. Persistent issues are communicated to parents.

How do you handle behavior issues?

Behavior issues are managed using positive reinforcement. Parents will be notified of any significant behavior concerns.

What safety measures are in place?

Safety measures include secure check-in/check-out procedures, regular emergency drills, and staff trained in first aid and CPR.

What measures are in place to handle emergencies?

Staff are trained in emergency procedures and the facility is equipped with emergency supplies. Regular drills are conducted to ensure readiness.

How does the school handle inclement weather during extended care?

We follow the school’s inclement weather policy. If the school closes early due to weather, extended care will also be canceled and parents will be notified.

What is the protocol if a student becomes ill?

If a student becomes ill, parents will be contacted immediately and required to pick up their child. The student will be kept comfortable and, if necessary, isolated until the parent arrives.

What are the policies for picking up students after hours?

A fee will be charged for late pick-ups to cover staffing costs. Repeated late pick-ups may result in suspension from the program. Further details are available here.

What if students need to take medication during extended care?

Parents must provide a completed medication authorization form before staff can allow or assist with administration of medicine. Medications will be stored and administered according to school policy.

How do you handle transitions between enrichment classes and extended care?

Staff escort students between locations and coordinate with enrichment class instructors to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Support and Communication

Can I provide feedback or suggestions?

Parents are encouraged to share feedback and suggestions with the Director of Auxiliary Programs, Mario Rossetti, via email or during scheduled parent meetings.

How is communication handled between extended care staff and parents?

Regular updates are provided through emails, newsletters, and other school communications.
