Sliding Scale Tuition
The diversity of our community — economic, religious, racial, cultural, and otherwise — enriches us all and is critical to an inclusive school like La Scuola.
Our Sliding Scale Tuition program is available to La Scuola families applying to Grandi, Grandissimi, Kindergarten, and first through eighth grade. The level of assistance we are able to offer is dependent on your family’s level of financial need, as determined by the information you provide through the Clarity Application.
We take into consideration:
- Each family’s commitment to independent, international education
- The full-time employment status of household adults
- Additional expenses, including tuition paid to other schools and colleges
- Student applicants’ full-time enrollment at La Scuola
- Your submission of a complete, on-time Clarity Application
All information you submit through Clarity will be kept in strict confidence, including information regarding your family’s Sliding Scale Tuition request. Decisions on requests are based on the recommendations from Clarity, the committee’s assessment of your needs (also strictly confidential), and the budgeted funds available.
At La Scuola, we pride ourselves on our robust Sliding Scale Tuition Assistance program and economically diverse community. We strive to meet demand with the resources available.
In accordance with equal opportunity standards, decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, gender identification, sexual identification, family composition, disability, or age and in compliance with existing State and Federal laws or regulations.
La Scuola International School is an independent non-profit school that meets the charitable and educational definitions of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Tax Identification Number: 56-2293184). As such, La Scuola receives no funding from State or Federal sources.

Academic Access & Partnerships
La Scuola International School is committed to making an exceptional international education accessible to students from all backgrounds. We actively partner with organizations dedicated to expanding educational opportunity in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we are always seeking to grow these relationships.
Our current partners include the SMART (Schools, Mentoring and Resource Team Inc.) program and Break Through, both of which share our belief that a rigorous, globally minded education should not be limited by socioeconomic circumstance. Through these partnerships, we provide students from San Francisco’s lowest income quartile access to the full La Scuola experience, beginning as early as sixth grade. Support through programs like SMART extends well beyond middle school, accompanying students through high school and into college. La Scuola accepts more SMART students than any other area middle school.
Know a bright, curious, motivated fourth grader who has the drive to learn but faces barriers to opportunity? Reach out to our Admissions team to learn more about how programs like SMART and our other academic access partnerships may open the door to a La Scuola education. You can also begin the nomination process directly on the SMART website.
We welcome conversations with other academic access organizations that align with our mission. If your organization is interested in partnering with us, we’d love to connect.
